The California State Police Capitol Corps were responsible for the safety of the State Capitol building, the State Legislature, employees and tourists who occupy the building daily. At that time officer's occupied standing "posts" throughout the Capitol Building.

Today the California Highway Patrol provides police services to the State Capitol and its occupants. Operations are conducted in basically the same manner however due to security concerns, personnel and equipment has been greatly enhanced. Each entrance is now manned with a magnetometer, x-ray machine, a security technician team, and a CHP officer.
